MEDICAL SERVICES & PROCEDURES
The Dallas Family Medicine office includes ten exam rooms, as well as updated lab and state of the art digital x-ray facilities. It was designed with our patients' comfort and privacy as a primary concern. We look forward to providing you with a pleasant experience when you visit our facility!
In addition to our specialties, we are proud to continue our quality service in the areas of preventative healthcare, physical exams, minor emergencies, routine illness, and weight control.
Our practice is unique in its ability to provide in-house, state-of-the-art healthcare. See some of our services below.
We utilize a state-of-the-art digital x-ray imaging unit. This advanced technology allows us to see the kind of detail that we only dreamed about prior to acquiring the unit. Digital x-rays improve our diagnostic ability by allowing us to zoom in and out on images, change the brightness and contrast, or even add color for detailed analysis for incredibly clear imaging. Our x-ray system is networked directly with a diagnostic center where a radiologist can immediately view the images we have obtained and issue a report to us.
During the first 15 years of Dr. Worrell's practice, he delivered over a thousand babies with a low C-section rate and no major complications. After being on call 24/7 for that time period, he decided to leave the hospital environment and chose to place emphasis on office-based care.
We offer hormonal evaluation as well as hormone replacement therapy. We do pap smears, including evaluation and treatment of abnormal pap smears utilizing colposcopy and cervical biopsy, as well as endocervical curettage. We treat a variety of gynecological diseases and offer cryosurgery for the treatment of abnormal pap smears where indicated. While under our care, we have never had a patient with an abnormal pap smear progress to cancer of the cervix.
Bone Density Testing
Bone Density Testing is an important part of our preventative care program. 50% of women and 25% of men will suffer osteoporotic fractures during their lifetime. Many of these fractures could have been prevented with appropriate screening and treatment. We do not practice "cookie cutter" medicine. There is an individualized approach for each patient.
Based on our diagnosis, we will discuss your options and recommend treatment. We have seen the consequences of spinal fractures that came from osteoporosis. There is a shortening of the spine, which at times can compromise breathing and digestion. When people suffer vertebral fractures, pressure from the abdomen pressing on the lungs can make it difficult to breathe normally.
Dr. Worrell has performed a number of minor surgical procedures during his 30 years of practice. He takes a great deal of pride in seeing that the procedures he performs are not only done professionally but are cosmetically pleasing as well.
The surgical procedures performed in our offices include the removal of skin lesions, repair of torn earlobes and the removal of a variety of cysts, including ganglion cysts, pylonidal cysts, sebaceous cysts and lipomas. We also remove skin tags and repair acute lacerations.
Our ability to care for emergency lacerations provides an alternative for patients who otherwise would be directed to the emergency room.
33% of all men and 39% of all women will suffer from diabetes during their lifetime. African Americans, Hispanics and Native Americans are also more prone to develop diabetes. At Dallas Family Medicine, we attempt to find those who are prone to develop diabetes before they develop the disease and make every effort to see to it that they avoid it.
Beta cells in the pancreas make insulin for us. The function of these cells declines as people progress toward developing diabetes.
Our focus is on ensuring that the beta cells are preserved. We spend a lot of time educating our patients on both pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical approaches to dealing with their diabetes or pre-diabetic states.
For those who have already been diagnosed with diabetes, we offer a variety of therapeutic options, and are well versed in the various medications available.
We see sleep as basic and essential to good health. One of the more common complaints we see is fatigue. A close look at the many benefits of sleep directs us toward approaches that not only improve the quality of life but longevity itself.
In a study over a 12 year period that looked at people with sleep apnea, there was a greater than 30% risk for non-fatal heart attack or stroke. Not only does sleep apnea dramatically increase the risk of heart attack and stroke, it is also linked to hypertension and weight gain.
The quality of sleep is directly linked to the overall quality of life. Sleep studies are one method of closely looking at what is causing sleep-related problems and can direct us toward an effective treatment. Dr. Worrell has been board certified in Sleep Medicine since 11/2011.
Dr. Worrell is trained as an osteopath and one of his passions has always been helping his patients manage pain using osteopathic manipulations.
One of the more unique aspects of our practice is that we actually put our hands on the patient to feel where the problem areas are and are able to demonstrate to the patient how to take an active role in seeing that they don't suffer from musculoskeletal pain.
We are not saying that we make all these problems go away, but we are saying that we find incredible success in helping people help themselves.
If you currently use over-the-counter and prescription allergy relief aids, you know that they can have uncomfortable side effects. You also know that they don’t address the underlying cause of your symptoms. That’s why you should talk to Dr. Worrell or one of his associates here at Dallas Family Medicine about precision allergy testing and the new customized medications that could help you say goodbye to your allergies forever.
We at DALLAS FAMILY MEDICINE know that every patient is different. Each person responds differently to different allergens. That’s why we custom-formulate every single dosage of our allergy medications specifically for the individual patient.
Unlike over-the-counter and prescription medications that ease your symptoms but may have significant side effects, we identify, then treat the cause of your disease with custom medications.
Acute Pain Management
We offer physical therapy, trigger point injections, joint injections and a variety of different types of medication as indicated. We tailor our type of manipulation to meet our patient's needs.
Dr. Worrell is currently writing a book on pain management.
Children are not just little versions of adults. They have unique medical needs which require a different approach. A number of babies that Dr. Worrell delivered years ago continue to see him for their family's pediatric and their own adult needs. We are very comfortable taking care of pediatric cases.
Many people struggle with what seems to be their innate inability to focus and concentrate on tasks. They see themselves as being "scatter brained" and become frustrated at their inability to accomplish their goals.
At our office, we offer some basic testing along with our patient interview and assessment of medical records. It's all part of our comprehensive approach to patient evaluation and treatment. After appropriate follow up visits to confirm that our patients are doing well and not showing signs of abuse or adverse reactions, they may enter our ongoing program where we continue to see them at three month intervals.
Not every patient who begins ADD medication can expect to go into the three month office visit and follow up approach. All our treatment services for ADD and ADHD related problems are individualized and based on an assessment of a patient's stability and risks as well as a determination of how effective the treatment actually is.
Dr. Worrell is now a designated Civil Surgeon authorized by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to perform medical examinations and give necessary immunizations for aliens applying for US citizenship.
These immigration physicals are a necessary part of the application process when applying for citizenship. The purpose of the physical is to evaluate the health of the applicant and identify the presence of hazardous conditions like tuberculosis, HIV, or syphilis. Applicants will also need to be current on all vaccinations recommended by the U.S. public health official. Family Medicine does not determine if you are actually eligible for citizenship. That determination is made by the Immigration officer after reviewing all records, including the report of the physical examination.
When we conduct a test, we don't just send it to the lab and put the results in your file. We look at each test individually and offer patient consultations to help them understand and make the best use of the test results.
We notify all patients of test results as soon as they arrive and will be happy to sit down and discuss these results to help you better assess both the risks and favorable treatment approaches available.
Preventative care is at the core of our practice philosophy. Our goal is to guide our patients toward long, healthy lives, using the best preventative care techniques available.
It doesn't matter whether you come to us for a sore throat, a laceration or a screening for cardiovascular risk factors. Our goal is always to take care of you while you are sick and to take preventative measures to help you from getting sick in the first place.
Dr. Worrell applies everything he has learned in 30 years of medical practice to help our patients stay healthy. We believe that routine annual physical exams are a powerful tool to help identify potential problems before they become serious and the physical exams we provide are both thorough and comprehensive.
